HELLENiQ ENERGY today announced the addition of three large-scale renewable energy projects to its portfolio in Romania and Bulgaria, significantly expanding its footprint in Southeastern Europe.
The new assets exceed 400 MW of licensed, Ready-to-Build capacity, with two of the projects including Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), that enhance flexibility, reliability, and grid resilience - critical enablers of a more sustainable and efficient energy system.
The acquisitions mark another major step toward HELLENiQ ENERGY’s long-term strategy to develop 2 GW of installed RES capacity by 2030, actively contributing to Europe’s goals for energy transition, autonomy and security.
HELLENiQ ENERGY, through its wholly owned subsidiary HELLENiQ Renewables, signed two new agreements for Ready-to-Build (RTB) projects in Romania:
These new investments further strengthen the Company’s presence in the Romanian RES market, adding to an existing portfolio that includes 211 MW of photovoltaic projects under construction and a substantial project pipeline under development.
In Bulgaria, HELLENiQ Renewables enters the local RES market with the acquisition of a hybrid 123 MW, Ready-to-Build (RTB) photovoltaic project, with a 90 MW / 180 MWh RTB BESS.
The new acquisitions, together with two additional battery storage projects in Florina, Greece -totaling 50 MW/ 200 MWh and set to begin construction in Q4- bring HELLENiQ ENERGY’s portfolio of operating, under-construction, and Ready-to-Build RES projects to approximately 1.5 GW.
Including the 1.5 GW development portfolio of ABO Energy Hellas acquired in June, the Group now manages a renewable energy pipeline exceeding 6 GW across five markets: Greece, Cyprus, Romania, Bulgaria, and the Republic of North Macedonia.
This growing portfolio features a well-balanced mix of technologies: photovoltaic, wind, behind-the-meter and standalone battery storage, enhancing both power generation and system reliability across multiple geographies.
“These investments are a clear demonstration of our strategy. We are expanding our regional footprint, diversifying our technological mix, and increasing the long-term value of our energy portfolio. With emphasis on storage capabilities and a well-balanced mix of solar and wind assets, HELLENiQ ENERGY is building an integrated regional renewable energy platform that contributes to Southeastern Europe’s security, autonomy and transition,” stated Andreas Shiamishis, CEO of HELLENiQ ENERGY, commenting on the new acquisitions.
